Description: The sequence PHYS 542, 549 is designed to accommodate science teaching candidates, engineering and science seniors, and graduate students who want, in two semesters, to obtain a basic knowledge of the major areas of modern physics. Experimental observations leading to the atomic description of matter; the need for revision of classical physics, the special theory of relativity, quantum theory with application to atomic and molecular structure.
