Short Title: Diffractive Optics
Description: An introduction to the modern theory of diffraction is developed from the viewpoints of scalar theory as well as electromagnetic theory. Consideration is given to the limits of validity of scalar theory. Topics to be covered include computer generated holograms, the electromagnetic theory of gratings, and numerical methods of solution. Discussions also will include a study of those devices that have been fabricated as diffractive optical elements, such as the intraocular lens implant and microwave holograms.
