Description: A detailed exploration and examination of the existentialist movement in modern thought, including its historical roots, its philosophical formulations, and its influence and expression in and relation to art, literature, psychology, social criticism, and religion. Readings will be from at least some of the major existentialists: Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Jaspers, Heidegger, and Sartre. In addition, texts from existentialist thinkers in other areas will be used.
