Description: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, The Federalist Papers, A. Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address," and Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" each is a core statement of the values contained in the American political system. Each represents argumentation and persuasion for the values. We are all asked to judge such efforts. To prepare students to analyze and discover the values in each artifact, each will be required to master and apply one of the six methods of scholars who analyze persuasive messages.
