Description: | The goal of this course is to help you become a more informed and skilled participant in and/or career member of the health industry. To accomplish this, the course is designed to expose you to a wide range of communication issues surrounding health. We begin with a basic introduction to the field of health communication, ethical dilemmas in the health environment, and the models that frame theory and research. Then we address such macro-level and micro-level concerns as the creation of health and illness meanings, health in the media, naturalistic medicine, HMOs, healthcare teams, and stress, burnout, and social support. In addition, you will receive hands-on training and experience with a public health campaign. |
