Short Title: Harlem Renaissance
Description: This course will focus on the literature of African Americans during the 1920s. During that time, Harlem's evolution as a black cultural center was becoming more and more profound. We will assess what led to the development of this literary period. We will also consider what led to its end, if indeed that did occur. Authors to be considered include Zora Neale Hurston, Wallace Thurman, Langston Hughes, Dorothy West and others. Several essays and class participation will be required.
