Description: EDPS 591E is designed for graduate students who are interested in assessment and evaluation issues in student affairs and higher education. Students will have an opportunity to learn about assessment models and methods that are directly applicable to higher education environments. Professionals in the field will join the class throughout the semester to answer questions about how assessment occurs in a variety of contexts. Students will 1) gain experience in reviewing the assessment literature in student affairs, 2) learn about assessment methods and designs, 3) learn how to conduct evaluations, 4) gain skill in developing assessment plans, 5) understand how to focus an evaluation using theories of actions, 6) have an opportunity to participate in the program evaluation process, 7) gain experience in communicating evaluation results, and 8) work as part of a team in developing strategies for dealing with real life assessment issues. The experiences in this course will prepare students to become 1) critical consumers of the assessment literature in Student Affairs, 2) professionals capable of designing and executing comprehensive assessment plans, and 3) professionals with skill in communicating evidence-based information to a variety of audiences.
