Description: Examines how children's oral language develops, how they learn to read and write, and the teacher's role in these processes. Using a balanced approach to literacy instruction, students learn to select materials; employ strategies to meet the cognitive and affective literacy needs of all children; and collect, integrate, and use data from various forms of assessment to inform teaching and learning processes. Includes a field-based experiential component. Taken concurrently with EDCI 361. No undergraduate students may be enrolled in any of these undergraduate courses until they have been admitted to teacher education.
