Description: This course provides an introduction to both Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs). Modem technology, standards, and practices are explored. Three architectural models are used to illustrate protocol relationships and operational characteristics of both packet and circuit switched networks. Business issues from both provider and user perspectives are discussed. Current technology and trends in each architectural element are reviewed.
