Description: This course seeks to acquaint the student with the social, political, and cultural developments in Germany from the middle nineteenth through the middle twentieth century. Its basic theme is the tragic efforts made by liberalism and democracy to assert themselves against the opposing forces of militarism and nationalism. Not open to students who have had B377-B378.
