Description: Introduction of the fundamental principles that govern the large-scale physical processes and circulation patterns of the global atmosphere. Topics include: the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), Rossby waves, heat and moisture balances for the earth-atmosphere system, maintenance of the temperature and wind distributions, jet streams, El Nino, and intraseasonal oscillations.
