Description: This course is designed to increase nursing skills in the collection and interpretation of psychosocial, developmental, and physical health data. Through the data gathering process, the physical and psychosocial aspects of the individual's health status are examined. The skills of history taking and the performance of a basic physical assessment are emphasized. College laboratories provide opportunity for supervised practice with well adult peers. The course content and the course objectives from which they are derived include areas of history taking, communication techniques, recognition of the parameters of normal, psychomotor skills of physical examination, safe use of diagnostic equipment, identification of health problems, and the integration of the data gathering process into the total nursing process with the formulation of nursing diagnoses.
