Description: The course analyzes the relationship between essay and fiction, focusing particularly on how these two literary genres influence and contaminate each others, creating hybrid, hard to categorize texts. During the seminar we will attempt to discover the possible stylistic, cultural and philosophical motivations behind the essayistic narrative choices of, among others, Robert Musil, Italo Calvino, Milan Kundera, Jean Didion, and Jeanette Winterson.
