Description: This 2 module course includes 8 weeks of studio practice and 8 weeks art history/media theory to address creative and theoretical aspects of explosives in contemporary culture. Explosives are standard fare in contemporary society, for instance, in video games, mass news media, and art history reaching from painted battle scenes to contemporary artworks about car bombs. Explosives have become an underlying fear in our collective consciousness, repulsive and attractive at the same time. The course includes an exhibition mounted in the VPA galleries.
