Description: Concepts and techniques of relativistic quantum field theory. Quantum Electrodynamics: radiative corrections, renormalization program, infrared divergences, external field problem. Feynman path integral quantization. Global symmetries and Ward identities. Quantum effective action: effective potential, loop expansion. Non-Abelian gauge theories: quantization via Faddeev-Popov prescription, Feynman rules, BRS invariance. Quantum Chromodynamics. Callen-Symanzik equation and renormalization group. Prerequisite: PHYS 66200.
