Description: This lecture course is a survey of musical traditions around the globe, including geographical areas such as Africa, Central Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, North, Central, and South America, Europe, and others. Participants will explore not only the musical traditions from these areas but also ways in which cultural traditions, life rituals, art, and other traditions shape and influence each region's expression of music. An individual research project will be included as part of the course requirement.
