Description: This course covers the broad area of disease resistance in plants. Specific topics include the phenotypes of resistance to pathogenic microorganisms in plants, inheritance of resistance based on phenotypic analysis, and variation in virulence and pathogenicity within populations of plant pathogens. Also covered is recent work that seeks to characterize genes and gene products, at the molecular level, that are involved in resistance in plants and virulence in pathogens. Prerequisite: 3 credit hours in Biochemistry, or Plant Physiology, or Genetics.
