Short Title: Environment Microbiol
Description: A survey of the various ways in which microbes interact with other organisms and their environment. The course will consider a diverse array of topics across a wide range of aquatic and terrestial ecosystems - including biofilms, thermal vent communities, and other extreme habitats - with a coverage of both pathogenic and nonpathogenic microbes. Current issues in microbial diversity, biodegradation, and bioremediation will also be discussed. The laboratory activities are designed to give students hands-on experience with current problems in microbial ecology.
