Description: This course is designed to provide students and future K-8 teachers with a background in the general biology concepts of plants, animals and the environment which are the backbone of Indiana science standards. Through a combination of lectures, laboratories, and field trips, students will gain a basic understanding of plant and animal structure going from the cellular to the systemic level. Plant and animal interactions, diversity in plants and animals, the basic structure of ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles, phylogeny, evolution, and basic microscopy will be central themes during the semester.
