Serial entrepreneur, startups investor and philanthropist Joe Lonsdale is the founder and managing partner at 8VC, a U.S.-based venture capital firm managing over $5 billion in capital.
Lonsdale, 40, became the youngest member included the Forbes Midas List of the world’s 100 best venture capitalists in 2016 and 2017.
In 2021, he became a founding trustee of the University of Austin, a new university in Texas dedicated to restoring the pursuit of truth in higher education.
Lonsdale in 2003 launched Palantir Technologies, a global software company known for its work supporting U.S. and allied defense and intelligence.
He also is the founder and chairman of Addepar, which has over $4 trillion on its wealth management technology platform, as well as OpenGov. More recently, he founded Epirus, Affinity, National Resilience Bio, LIT and other mission-driven technology businesses. He continues to launch companies through the 8VC Build program.
As an investor, Lonsdale was an early backer of companies like Anduril Industries, Oculus, Guardant Health, Oscar, Illumio, Wish, JoyTunes, Blend, Flexport, Joby Aviation, Orca Bio, Qualia, Synthego, RelateIQ, Yugabyte and others.
He also sits on the board of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute and serves as an advisor to a range of other nonprofit ventures.
Lonsdale began his career as an early executive at Clarium Capital, which he helped grow into a large, global macro hedge fund. He also worked at PayPal while attending Stanford University.
