WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Research Foundation recognized almost 80 Purdue University faculty and staff members and announced the 2015 Outstanding Commercialization Award recipient for Purdue University Faculty at its 11th annual Inventors Recognition Reception Tuesday (Nov. 3) in the Herman and Heddy Kurz Purdue Technology Center at Purdue Research Park.

Sherry Harbin, professor of biomedical engineering and basic medical sciences, was named winner of the 2015 Outstanding Commercialization Award for Purdue Faculty. The award is given annually to a faculty member in recognition of outstanding contributions to, and success with, commercializing Purdue research discoveries. It was established with an endowment gift from the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Foundation.

Harbin has 96 total patents from her Purdue innovations. She is the founder of GeniPhys Inc., a life sciences company. Her innovation of self-assembling, bio-instructive collagen materials are used as building blocks to create 3-D tissue and organs outside the human body to support basic biological research, drug discovery and chemical toxicity testing.
