The Anvil to host Sept. 9 callout for media tech contest for Purdue students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University graduate and undergraduate students across all academic disciplines are invited to a Wednesday (Sept. 9) callout meeting for a media technology competition that offers more than $10,000 in prizes.

The sixth Schurz Innovation Challenge at Purdue provides competitors with an opportunity to develop innovative mobile and online media technology. All teams must include at least one Purdue graduate or undergraduate student. Other eligibility information and a calendar of important dates for the competition are available at http://www.purduefoundry.com/blogs/schurz. The callout will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Anvil, 320 North St., West Lafayette. Refreshments will be served.

Eleven teams and 31 people competed in the April 2015 competition. First place and an award of $5,000 went to Grissom Controls, which offers a software solution to optimize controls for highly complex heating, cooling and ventilation systems in buildings. Second place and $3,500 went to MirrorMirror, which created a contextual display that shows relevant information in the home. Third place was awarded to Walk with Me, whose app brings friends together as they go about their daily routine.

Schurz Communications Inc. sponsors the competition, which is organized by Purdue Foundry and is held once each semester.
