Notables:

- Purdue was listed as one of the top five universities nationally for a computer forensics degree in a recent GlobalPost feature. Globalpost said the top five programs were compiled using "student selectivity, research, noted faculty and faculty publications, as measured by U.S. News & World Report, and three additional world-ranking organizations for computer engineering." Purdue offers a master's degree with a cyberforensics specialization. "While it is desirable for applicants to have completed an undergraduate major in computers, the program accommodates those from a wide range of undergraduate majors. Students complete a 33-hour program with 15 hours in cyber forensics of file systems, cloud and virtual environments, and cyber conflict and transnational crime," the GlobalPost story said.

Alumni honors:

- Purdue alumnus Bruce Harreld has been named the next president of the University of Iowa, the university announced Thursday (Sept. 3). Harreld, who received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Purdue in 1972, will take office Nov. 2. Harreld, who was named a distinguished College of Engineering alumnus in 1991, served in corporate executive positions with Kraft Foods, IBM and Boston Market restaurants before coming to the Harvard Business School in 2008. There, he held dual appointments in the entrepreneurial and strategy units and focused on teaching strategy. His research focus was encouraging innovation, changing corporate cultures and managing people. For more, visit http://now.uiowa.edu/2015/09/president-harreld
