Annual Butterfly Encounter is Saturday

July 13, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Butterfly enthusiasts of all ages and expert levels can visit the Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories Wildlife Habitat Area in Lafayette for the annual Butterfly Encounter on Saturday (July 18).

The event, at 1650 Lilly Road, will be from 1-4 p.m.

Sponsored by Evonik and Purdue University's Department of Entomology, the family-friendly event celebrates the beauty and diversity of Indiana butterflies. No previous butterfly knowledge is necessary to participate.

Entomologists will help identify common butterflies of Indiana and discuss butterfly biology, including the importance of habitat and conservation to endangered species and biodiversity. After the brief tutorial, participants will break into groups and count butterflies they find.

Resource materials for the event are available at http://www.entm.purdue.edu/butterflycount/event.html.
