Workshop promotes healthy soil

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Soil experts from the Purdue and Ohio State Extension services will be among the presenters at the 2015 Farming for Soil Health workshop March 24 in Muncie.

The workshop will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. in Heartland Hall of the Delaware County 4-H Fairgrounds, 1210 N. Wheeling Ave.

Topics and presenters are:

* Compaction in No-Till Systems and Long-Term No-Till Research: Alan Sundermeier, Ohio State Extension.

* Cover Crop Seeding Methods: Dave Meyers, New Ross Grain; Paul Russell, Russell Sheep Company; and Mike Shuter, Shuter Sunset Farms.

* No-Till Planter Setup and Troubleshooting: Bill Lehmkuhl, Precision Agri-Services.

* Nutrients in Tile Systems: Eileen Kladivko, professor of agronomy at Purdue.

* Using Herbicide Classification Chart and Applicator Recordkeeping: Michael O’Donnell, Purdue Extension educator in Delaware County.

Continuing education credits are available for private and commercial applicators as well as certified crop advisers.

The workshop is sponsored by First Merchants Bank.

Registration is free, and a catered lunch will be provided. Registration deadline is March 20.
