Precision ag conference highlights new technology

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Extension is co-sponsoring the Northwest Indiana Precision Agriculture Conference Feb. 24 in Lakeville, focusing on the benefits of technology that can be used in the farm business now as well as possibilities for the future.

The conference at the Newton Center, 601 N. Michigan St., will begin at 8 a.m. EST. 

Main session topics and speakers are:

* "Making Data and Images Work for You." John Fulton, associate professor in agricultural and biosystems engineering, Ohio State University.

* "Future of Precision Agriculture." Tim Stombaugh, associate professor of biosystems and agricultural engineering, University of Kentucky.

* "Impact of Precision Agriculture on My Business." Rodney Rulon, Rulon Enterprises, and Jeremy Wilson, Crop IMS.

There will also be a panel discussion on "Big Data," highlighting the potential benefits to farmers.

The conference includes six breakout sessions presented by industry professionals and educators as well as a trade show featuring the event sponsors: Agri-Management Solutions Inc., Channel Seed, Clunette Elevator Co., Farm Credit Mid-America, Schlipf Precision Ag, Wyatt Sales & Service, and Frick Services Inc. of Wyatt.

Organizers have applied for continuing education credits.

Registration includes morning refreshments and lunch. Participants must mail a completed registration form to the Kosciusko County Extension Office at 202 W. Main St., Warsaw, IN 46580. Registration forms are available at https://extension.purdue.edu/Elkhart/pages/article.aspx?intItemID=8602.

Cost is $30 per person, or $40 for those who register after Feb. 17. Checks should be made payable to the Kosciusko County CES Ed Fund.
