Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Peggy A. Ertmer, a professor in the College of Education, has been named an American Educational Research Association Fellow. She is among 23 scholars named 2015 fellows by AERA, the largest professional organization devoted to the scientific study of education. Fellows are selected for notable and sustained research achievements. Ertmer is a professor of learning design and technology in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Her scholarship focuses on the impact that student-centered instructional approaches and strategies have on learning. Other College of Education faculty members who are AERA fellows are John Staver, professor of science education and chemistry, and Anita Roychoudhry, professor of science education, along with Mary Nakleh, an emerita faculty member.

Notables:

- The Center for Career Opportunities has received the 2015 Service to International Students Award from the National Career Development Association. The award recognizes college/university career centers that have made an active commitment to partnering with and supporting the career development of international students, the NCDA website says. The NCDA provides "professional development, publications, standards and advocacy to practitioners and educators who inspire and empower individuals to achieve their career and life goals."

- R. Claudio Aguilar has received the Purdue Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Faculty Mentor of the Year Award. Aguilar is associate professor and assistant head of the Department of Biological Sciences. The recipient of the award is selected based on formal feedback that is gathered at various levels. The LSAMP program is aimed at increasing the number and quality of students successfully completing degree programs in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and increasing the number of students interested in, academically qualified for and matriculated into graduate program studies.
