Symposium date set for Illiana vegetable growers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Commercial vegetable growers can learn about resources and practices to improve their businesses at the Illiana Vegetable Growers Symposium.
The event will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (CST) Jan. 6 at Teibel's Restaurant, 1775 U.S. 41, Schererville.
The program is a joint effort of Purdue and the University of Illinois Extension services. Several speakers from Purdue and the University of Illinois will be presenters, including Extension specialists and growers.
Some highlighted activities will be a growers panel on passing a food safety audit, sessions on the use of neonicotinoid insecticides and powdery mildew control, and a roundtable discussion on vegetable marketing.
There also will be breakout sessions during which participants can choose presentations on either food hubs and finances or tomatoes and high tunnels.
Participants can earn Indiana Private Pesticide Applicator recertification credits for a $10 fee in advance or at the door. Certified Crop Adviser continuing education units and Indiana Commercial Pesticide Applicator continuing certification hours also are available.
Registration costs $20 if received by Dec. 19. Participants can also register at the door for $25, but they will not be guaranteed lunch.
