October 28, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A Nov. 19 program by Purdue Extension and University of Illinois Extension will help agriculture landowners, tenants and lenders better understand land leases and land values at a time of low commodity prices.

Paired as the Bi-State Agriculture Programs group, the two organizations will provide timely, relevant information to help guide attendees in their leasing and buying decisions in 2015 and beyond.

The program will be at the Beef House Restaurant, 16501 N. state Route 63 at Covington, off Interstate 74 in western Indiana. It will begin with registration at 2:30 p.m. and include dinner.

Purdue Extension's Land Lease Team will start the sessions at 3 p.m. with an explanation of different types of land leases and their advantages and disadvantages. Jim Schrier of Reiling, Teder and Schrier in Lafayette, will give a presentation on negotiations, notifications and documenting land lease arrangements. Dinner will follow at 6 p.m.

Beginning at 7 p.m., Jason Henderson, associate dean of Purdue's College of Agriculture and director of Purdue Extension, will share his insight on the trend of agricultural real estate values. Darrell Good, professor emeritus in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economic Sciences at the University of Illinois, will explain current and futures grain markets and how they might affect land leases.

Registration fee is $20, which includes dinner. Those wanting to attend can register by Nov. 17 through their local Purdue or University of Illinois Extension office or online at http://web.extension.illinois.edu/cfiv/.
