Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Papers co-authored by two Krannert School of Management professors have been included in an International Journal of Research in Marketing list of the top 100 marketing research articles with long-term impact. At No. 48 is "Sources of Market Pioneer Advantages in Consumer Goods Industries," a 1985 paper co-authored by Bill Robinson, associate professor of management. At No. 71 is "Long-Term Manufacturer-Supplier Relationships: Do They Pay Off for Supplier Firms?," a 1995 paper co-authored Manohar Kalwani, OneAmerica Professor of Management. According to the journal, the list includes "the 100 academically most impactful papers in marketing science." The list was drawn from more than 5,500 articles published in five journals from 1982 to 2003.

- Two faculty members in the Department of Aviation Technology received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award on Aug. 27. Larry Gross, associate professor, and retired professor Mitch Grundman were honored at a reception at the Purdue University Airport. The award recognizes pilots who have demonstrated professionalism, skill and aviation expertise by maintaining safe operations for 50 or more years. Recipients are awarded a certificate and a lapel pin and are recognized in the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award Roll of Honor.

- An international research team led by Yingjie Chen, assistant professor of computer graphics technology, earned the Sponsor's Award for Novel Visualization in the VAST Challenge 2014. The Visual Analytics Science and Technology challenge is an international contest in which analytics researchers and developers compete to solve data analytics problems. The team included faculty and graduate students from Purdue and Harbin Institute of Technology in China. Teams used datasets that included GPS records, Twitter posts, and various text documents to investigate a hypothetical kidnapping case. Teams could tackle three mini challenges as well as the grand challenge, which integrated results from the mini challenges. Chen's team submitted results for all four challenges. Lead team members included David Ebert, the Silicon Valley Professor of Electric and Computer Engineering at Purdue; Zhenyu Qian, assistant professor of interaction design at Purdue; and Chen Wang, a media technology and art professor at Harbin Institute of Technology. 

Student honors:

- Dana Smith, a senior in the College of Science from Livonia, Michigan, has been selected to the American Association of University Women's National Student Advisory Council. Council members advise AAUW and also will help plan and implement the annual National Conference for College Women Student Leaders. The conference will be in May 2015 at the University of Maryland, College Park. SAC members serve as peer leaders and lead networking sessions.
