Faculty and staff honors:

- Three Purdue employees recently received recognition from the Indiana Council for Continuing Education, which supports continuing education professionals in higher education and other organizations that promote adult learning in Indiana. Gary Bennett, professor of entomology, received the Faculty of the Year Award for his integrated pest management courses. Cheryl Files, a clerk in the Office of Bursar, received the Student of the Year Award for her completion of her master's of science in technology degree. Catherine Dunmire, video production coordinator in Continuing Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, received Professional Staff Member of the Year.

Notables:

- Purdue University President Mitch Daniels will be featured as part of Chicago Ideas Week in a session titled "Cross-Industry Leadership: A Case Study Comes to Life," from noon to 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday (Oct. 14) at Morningstar Inc., 22 W. Washington St., Chicago. During the interactive conversation, Daniels will reflect on his experiences as a leader and reformer with Robert Kaplan, a senior associate dean and professor at the Harvard Business School. Chicago Ideas Week, which is Oct. 13-19, brings together thought leaders to share their experience and expertise.

Rankings:

- The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Center at Purdue has been named one of "The 30 Best Colleges for LGBT Students" by BestColleges.com. The website says colleges and universities on the list "provide an exceptional level of support for students of various gender and sexual identities."
