Award-winning Lysander Piano Trio to perform at Purdue

January 3, 2014

West Lafayette, Ind. - The Lysander Piano Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse. The performance is presented by Purdue Convocations.

In William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Lysander is a devoted romantic. Inspired by epics of old, he speaks of love's ideals while courting Hermia. This namesake trio embraces the chamber music tradition with an equal devotion. The Lysander Piano Trio was founded in 2009 while its players - Itamar Zorman, violin; Michael Katz, cello; and Liza Stepanova, piano - were graduate students at The Juilliard School. Since that time, the trio has performed at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and David Rubenstein Atrium, Merkin Concert Hall (for the 2012 ASCAP Awards), Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater.

The trio is a standout at chamber music competitions, having won 2012's Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition. At Purdue this ensemble, called "a trio with brio" (by the New York Daily News), will perform a program featuring works by Mozart, Ravel, Piazolla and more.

Tickets are $14 for adults, those 18 years and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students. Tickets are available at the Elliott Hall and Stewart Center box offices at 765-494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW.
