Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to perform at Purdue on March 23

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, with Allen Stone, will perform at 8 p.m. March 23 in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music. This performance is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, a duo from Seattle, has emerged as a premier national hip-hop group known for their electrifying live shows, expertly crafted music, and innovative music videos and media. After years of building momentum with impassioned support from their devoted fan base, 2012 has been a banner year for the group, kicked off by Macklemore's feature in XXL's Freshman Class.
Most recently, the group has broken new ground by independently releasing its debut full-length album, "The Heist," which shot into the No. 1 spot on iTunes and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts without the support of a traditional record label. Their single "Thrift Shop" landed on the Billboard Top 100 chart and is still climbing, with a wildly popular music video (20 million-plus views on YouTube) on heavy rotation on BET and MTV2. The pair has been featured at a significant number of major festivals and showcases, including the 2011 Rock The Bells Tour, Lollapalooza (Ill.), Soundset (Minn.), MusicFest NW (Ore.), Sasquatch (Wash.), Outside Lands (San Francisco), and a much-talked about run at South By Southwest, including a set at the Fader Fort.
Allen Stone
Singer and songwriter Allen Stone describes himself as "a hippie with soul," and his music reflects both sides of this formula; his vocals and melodic style show the clear influence of classic soul and R&B of the 1960s and '70s, while his lyrics reveal an idealism and passion that recall the folk-inspired singer/songwriters of the same era. In 2010, Stone recorded an album called "Last to Speak" that he released digitally through his own Stickystones label. A second album, titled "Allen Stone," followed in the fall of 2011, and quickly became an independent success story; online sales took the album to the top five of the iTunes R&B/Soul chart, and it placed on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, all without a formal distribution deal. As Stone and his band played more and bigger shows, they were invited to appear on Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Last Call with Carson Daly, and features on Stone were published in Esquire and Billboard.
Ticket information
A special Purdue student discount: Students will be eligible to purchase a special $29 ticket on Thursday (Jan. 17) only. Students should watch their Purdue email for information on how to purchase tickets online at 10am. Thanks to the help of the Hall of Music Box Office staff, students will now be able to purchase tickets online rather than having to stand in line at the box office. These tickets can be purchased online without any fees!
Tickets for the general public are $35 and $33 for students ($29 for Purdue and Ivy Tech students on Jan. 17 only). Prices include a facilities fee. (Limit of six tickets/person.)
Tickets go on sale to Purdue and Ivy Tech Lafayette students, and Purdue faculty, staff and retirees with a current identification card at 10 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Elliott Hall of Music and Stewart Center box offices or at 765-494-3933. Tickets for the general public go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 through campus box offices, ticketmaster.com or at 800-745-3000.
Student Concert Committee (SCC) has 16 student members who have been selected through an application and interview process to advise Purdue Convocations about popular entertainment selections for Purdue students on the West Lafayette campus. Student members experience the equivalent of an internship in the entertainment industry. In addition to weekly meetings, SCC members work on sale days for SCC shows, are highly involved in publicity and promotional duties for their events, and work backstage day-of-show. Each year, the committee selects eight new members to replace outgoing members who have completed a two-year term. After a one-year general membership, the students are expected to take a leadership and mentoring role on the committee.
