College of Science (Indianapolis): Indy GRID
The Indy GRID Growth in Risk, Intelligence, & Data is a residential learning community for first-year College of Science students in Indianapolis who are curious about how data shapes the world. This community brings together students interested in actuarial science and data science to think critically, collaborate, and explore real-world applications of analytics and risk.
Through hands-on projects, mentorship, and connections with professionals and alums, students in Indy GRID will build the skills, understanding, and confidence to translate complex data into meaningful insights.

Eligibility
Any first-year student in the College of Science at Purdue in Indianapolis.
Residential Component
Required. Students are required to live in University Residences housing.

Associated Courses and Information
Fall Semester:
- CS 19000 (1 credit) - Introduction to Professional Practice in Computer Science
- STAT 17000 (1 credit) - Introduction to Actuarial Science
Every fee eligible student involved with a learning community (LC) at Purdue will be assessed the $200 LC fee to their university account. These funds support activities and travel, signature LC events, housing assignments and/or course registration and instructor stipends.
Events and Activities Included:
Examples could include:
- Signature events connecting to the broader community in Indianapolis
- Team-based projects with Indianapolis organizations
- Professional panels and networking events
- Community building and social events
- City-based explorations connecting data to real-life challenges
