Purdue Youth Protection for EMG Volunteers

Youth Protection Training for Purdue EMG Volunteers

  • Purdue EMG volunteers are only required to complete the training, if the program is registered with Youth Protection.
  • All other Purdue EMG volunteers may visit the training link in Ideal-Logic to complete the “Program Staff Training” regardless of their involvement in a registered youth event.
    • In this case, the EMG Coordinator will not be able to verify completion of the training.
    • EMG volunteers can send their training completion email or screenshot from Ideal-Logic to their EMG Coordinator.
  • Volunteers must register in Ideal-Logic (online system managed by Office of VP for Ethics and Compliance).
    • Follow the link for the “Program Staff Training” found in Ideal-Logic at this website:  https://www.purdue.edu/ethics/ed-training/youth.php
    • EMG volunteers will use the “Non-Purdue Login” to register in Ideal-Logic and complete the training. Click on “Create a New Account” if they do not already have an account. Or, click on “Login” , if they have already have an account.
  • The “Program  Staff Training” takes about 60 minutes to complete and EMG’s will receive education hour credit for their effort.
  • For registered youth events, EMG Coordinators will be able to see a volunteer’s training completion status in Ideal-Logic.
  • Purdue EMG volunteers serving as “Session Contacts” for registered youth events will be required to complete the “Program Director Training” in addition to the “Program Staff Training”.
    • This training is also completed in Ideal-Logic and can be found at this website: https://www.purdue.edu/ethics/ed-training/youth.php
    • Follow the link for “Program Director Training”.
    • To access the “Program Director Training” in Ideal-Logic, follow the same instructions as given above for the “Program Staff Training”.
    • The “Program Director Training” takes 30 minutes to complete and EMGs will receive education hour credit for completing the training.
  • EMGs will receive an email confirming the completion of either of these trainings.
  • Both trainings are valid for 2 years.

Checking your training completion compliance

  • The system does NOT send expiration notifications for Program Staff training, unless the individual is listed on a current event, and it expires during the event.
  • The system tracks training only for those involved in current events/programs. If someone completed training two years ago and no longer participates in a youth program, the system would not require them to renew their training.
  • Those who are interested in checking on their training expiration date can complete the following steps.
    • Step 1: Log in to Purdue University Protection of Minors Portal (ideal-logic.com)
    • Step 2: Click on “View All Requirements” under “Your Compliance”

Note about required text for programs open to the public and not registered with Purdue Youth Protection:

  • If a program is open to the general public, targets adults, or targets family units, it will not be registered with Youth Protection.
  • For these types of programs, include this statement at registration or on promotional materials: “Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.”

Purdue EMG’s are to contact their EMG County Coordinator to ask questions about this training.
