Video case studies of patient encounters in primary care
Sarah is a woman balancing her role as a wife, mother, and employee. She begins to habitually use opioids following a dental procedure, long after the pain has subsided, and is now experiencing withdrawal. Her nurse practitioner has honest conversations with her to develop a treatment plan.
The videos can stand alone or be paired with case study questions available in the materials found in the graduate student materials under nurse educators.
About this site
We have arranged these resources so that you can easily access the materials you are seeking by audience type. Our goal is to increase knowledge and confidence while reducing stigma related to substance use disorders.
These materials were originally designed to offer a streamlined approach to incorporating expert substance use-related content into the core nursing curriculum and have been expanded to additional audiences. The modules were developed by content experts at Purdue University and Baylor University. The team received guidance and review of materials from an advisory panel of experts from across the country who work in the field of substance use treatment.
Addiction is not a moral failing, but a human struggle deserving of compassion and understanding.
