Purdue School of Nursing launches online Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Systems Innovation and Quality

The Purdue University School of Nursing has launched a new graduate certificate in healthcare systems innovation and quality — a fully online program designed to prepare healthcare professionals to lead quality improvement initiatives, strengthen healthcare systems and improve patient outcomes.

The 11-credit certificate equips working professionals with practical, evidence-based skills in systems thinking, healthcare innovation, quality improvement and leadership. Effective fall 2026, students can complete the program in approximately three semesters and begin in the fall, spring or summer.

“Healthcare is changing rapidly, and today’s healthcare professionals need the knowledge and leadership skills to improve systems of care while keeping patients at the center of every decision,” said Libby Richards, head of the Purdue School of Nursing. “This certificate prepares a variety of healthcare leaders, including nurses, pharmacists and administrators,  to lead meaningful change within their organizations and make an immediate impact on the quality and safety of healthcare delivery.”

The curriculum emphasizes real-world application, enabling students to implement quality improvement strategies, evaluate healthcare systems and lead organizational change while continuing to work in their current roles. Students may also tailor their learning through elective coursework in areas such as healthcare informatics, artificial intelligence or process improvement. The certificate can be completed as a stand-alone credential or stacked toward future graduate study.

The new certificate reflects Purdue Nursing’s commitment to preparing healthcare leaders who can address today’s complex healthcare challenges through innovation, collaboration and evidence-based practice.
