Purdue Nutrition Science’s Eicher-Miller elected to American Society for Nutrition board of directors

The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) announced Heather Eicher-Miller, Purdue University professor of nutrition science, as director-at-large, nutrition population science, on its board of directors. Eicher-Miller has been a member of ASN since 2004, serving in various volunteer and leadership positions within the society. Her two-year term as director-at-large began on Aug. 1.

“My priority is to serve the discipline of population sciences and ensure that the multiple areas and groups within population sciences are considered by the ASN board,” Eicher-Miller said. “I will put my full effort into dialogue, communication, and translation through engagement with the ASN Board and membership to promote nutrition science.”

The mission of ASN is to advance the science, education and practice of nutrition. As global leaders in nutrition, ASN members generate and disseminate fundamental nutrition evidence for informing food systems, public health, medicine, education and dietetic practice. As the landscape of nutrition rapidly changes, ASN members are working to increase transparency of research, restore consumers’ trust in nutrition science, and increase investment in nutrition research.

At Purdue, Eicher-Miller leads research teams in projects on food security, dietary intake, dietary assessment and dietary patterns. Her research is guided to evaluate and strengthen interventions aimed to improve diet and food security. In addition, she is a member of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

Founded in 1928, the society brings together the top nutrition researchers, medical practitioners, policy makers and industry leaders to advance our knowledge and application of nutrition.
