Data Sites and Reports

We have made every attempt to present Web sites that offer accurate and reliable data. In order to be included on our site, the data and reports must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. Data must be from a reliable source. Many of the indicators presented come from state or U.S. government statistical agencies. All of the data have been published or released to the public in some other form before they appear on our site.
  2. The indicator should be available and consistent over time. Changes in methodologies, practices, or policies may affect year-to-year comparability.
  3. The indicator should be easily understandable to the public. In order for data to be useful, it must be presented in a way that is not overly complex or has utility for a limited audience.
  4. Research and evaluation reports should employ rigorous methodologies and use representative samples. Research and evaluation reports presented on our site have either been published in peer-reviewed journals or issued as technical reports to governmental agencies.
