For a problem like B, on homework’s or the final will we lose points for not writing out and solving the shear force equations from F_x=0? And same for the moment equations. The examples seemed to imply that all we needed was the graphs and not the section FBDs and equations.
I guess you are talking about whether you need to solve shear force and bending moment for the entire beam.
To find the pure-bending location, you don’t have to solve shear force and bending moment for the entire beam. You just need to find where the shear force is equal to zero and the bending moment is not zero.
