  1. Is the small bar in between AB and BW meant to be considered as a separate member, or is it just part of the picture meant to be neglected? If it’s an actual member, I’m having trouble figuring out how this problem can be solved without more information on heights and lengths

    1. It’s part of the crane supporting weight W, so in that sense it’s a member. However, you don’t need to solve for the forces on it specifically since all of the internal forces cancel out.

      Practically, you can ignore it when solving the actual problem.

  2. Do I have to separate member AB from the rest of the members or can I solve the internal reactions while keeping it connected with the other members? I feel like there is not enough information given to solve for Bx, By, and the force from the two force member.
