Students explored emerging health threats, their impacts and potential solutions in Dr. Marisol Sepulveda`s One Health in the Era of the Anthropocene. The class culminated in presentations where each student researched a specific case study, such as avian influenza, PFAS forever chemicals, bushfires and antimicrobial-resistant microbes. In addition to giving a presentation on their findings, they also answered questions from a panel of experts. Guest lecturers showed the class how they were applying One Health in real world scenarios, helping students put skills into perspective and practice to prepare for their own presentations. Did you know there are reindeer living in Indiana not far from the Purdue campus? They aren`t named Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid and Blitzen, but they do remind locals of Rudolph and his story at seasonal events. Our next FNR December graduate is wildlife major @aaneseragrace. Aanesera says her FNR memory was the summer practicum in the UP. She said it was really rewarding to get hands-on experience in cool environments with her friends every day. Post-graduation, Aanesera plans to gain field experience through opportunities that allow her to travel while working with diverse species and ecosystems.

Our next three December graduates are wildlife major @_tamtran , master`s student @mustak.ahmad.08 and PhD student Yunmei Huang.
Tam Tran says her favorite FNR memories are Summer Practicum and Spring Into Nature. She says she loved being in the Upper Peninsula and also loved teaching people about everything FNR during Spring Into Nature. Her future plans including travelling before hopefully finding work that is bird related.
Mustak Ahmad presented his thesis on "Forest Monitoring Across Scales with Artificial Intelligence." His favorite FNR memory is when he first stepped into FNR. The all-wood design of the building immediately stood out to him and made the space feel warm and welcoming. It left a very positive first impression. Next up, he plans to pursue a PhD in technology.
Yunmei Huang completed her dissertation on "Tree Species Identification Using Deep Learning Techniques." She says her favorite FNR memory is participating in the FNR poster competition, which offered great opportunities to meet many people and learn about their research. Next up, Yunmei plans to continue in academia and will pursue a postdoctoral position.
