Available Positions

The Manufacturing Design Laboratory is now actively seeking graduate students interested in polymer composites, next-generation manufacturing, and collaborating with automotive and sports engineering industries!

We currently have 2-3 openings for PhD students to start in either Fall 2022 or Spring 2023. Positions are open to students admitted to the Purdue School of Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.

Research project areas include:

  • Thermoplastic polymer composites manufacturing for sports engineering and automotive applications, including the manufacturing of 3D hybrid additive composites.
  • Design and simulation of hybrid additive composite structures, including part design and Finite Element Analysis. Students with experience in programs such as SolidWorks, Catia, Abaqus, Moldex, etc. are highly encouraged.
  • Predictive Technical Cost Modeling (pTCM): pTCM is at the confluence of materials engineering, industrial engineering, and data management and is an essential aspect of Industry 4.0. Through the systematic analysis of new advanced manufacturing methods, pTCM allows for the prediction of cost feasibility as well as provides a means of optimization.

Additional openings for MS students or postdoctoral researchers are also available.
