The Office of Engagement Welcomes Graduate Student Giovanna Roberto

The Office of Engagement is pleased to welcome Giovanna Roberto. Giovanna brings a diverse background in veterinary medicine, public health, community outreach, and education. After earning her degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2019, she continued her academic journey and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. focused on One Health and epidemiology. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to connecting knowledge with community needs through service, education, and engagement.
Her experience includes providing veterinary services in remote and underserved communities, volunteering in public health campaigns in Mexico, leading disease prevention education initiatives, and developing educational materials for children. She has also created social media content and outreach resources designed to engage and inform diverse audiences. These experiences have strengthened her skills in teamwork, community engagement, and extension work while reinforcing her passion for improving public health through collaboration and education.
In her new role with the Office of Engagement, Giovanna will support Purdue’s community engagement and United Way initiatives through data management, communications, event planning, partnership development, and program support. Her responsibilities will include managing partnership data and campaign communications, writing articles and email communications, collaborating with campus and community partners, assisting with events and reports, supporting the Board Fellows program, maintaining the BRIDGE database, and creating public relations content that highlights Purdue’s engagement efforts.
Giovanna sees this role as an opportunity to deepen her understanding of university-community partnerships and contribute to their continued success.
“My goal in this role is to explore and understand university-community partnerships better. I want to help maintain these important connections by sharing my insights and working with the team to gather, organize, and interpret partnership data. Together, we can use this information to make future projects even more successful.”
What drew Giovanna to the Office of Engagement was its strong commitment to community engagement and strategic communication. She believes the office’s mission aligns closely with both her academic training and professional interests, and she is eager to contribute to the meaningful work already underway.
“What attracted me to this position was the Office of Engagement’s commitment to community engagement and strategic communication. This commitment aligns with both my academic training and professional passions, and I’m excited to learn about and contribute to the ongoing projects.”
Outside of work, Giovanna enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, their cats and dog, and new baby boy. She also enjoys watching television series and stand-up comedy.
Although her specialized training is in veterinary medicine, Giovanna has always been passionate about outreach and community-focused work. She describes herself as highly adaptable and enjoys exploring new topics, expanding her knowledge, and collaborating across disciplines to make a positive impact.
Please join us in welcoming Giovanna Roberto to the Office of Engagement. We are excited to have her on the team and look forward to the contributions she will make in support of Purdue’s engagement mission and community partnerships.
