Howdy! I am Sam. I starting 3D modeling things in my freshmen year of high school. I started with Inventor, and after that I started taking more classes about modeling and computer aided design. During my Junior and Senior years of high school I learned AutoCAD and Solidworks respectively. After I graduated I entered into the Computer Graphics Technology major here at Purdue with specializations in Virtual Product Integration and Construction Graphics. I’m a sophomore at the moment and have now expanded my CAD knowledge to include Catia and NX. I decided to become a monitor at the Boilermaker Labs because I loved 3D printing things in high school and I wanted to get more experience with printing so I could make models that could be manufactured easier. I also wanted to help people print things they’ve made. I mainly print nerdy replicas I’ve made from nerd shows like Doctor Who, Firefly, Star Trek/Wars, Men in Black but I also make things from video games. I’ve gone from non-functional models to simple mechanisms to including more complex things like circuits into the design after it is made. Basically, if I think its cool I’ll replicate it.
