Purdue takes first steps to welcome to campus Ukrainian scholars seeking refuge from their war-torn country

Purdue has extended an invitation and matched 11 faculty members and scholars from war-torn Ukraine with campus hosts, providing refuge in the United States so they can continue their academic pursuits here. The University is working with another 15 scholars from the Eastern European country whose requests are either in review or being processed to potentially be a part of Purdue’s Ukrainian Scholars Initiative.

Construction ambassador giving tour

Construction ambassador team gives lift to Bands & Orchestras' new home

As Purdue Bands & Orchestras prepares to take its next giant leap into its new home of Hagle Hall, band members Josh Fiore, a sophomore in construction engineering and management, and Joey Martin, a junior in civil engineering, are serving on the construction ambassador team helping to see its construction through to completion. Hagle Hall will provide modern, state-of-the-art rehearsal and practice space.

When she walked up and touched the orange statue created in her likeness, Afua Bruce reflected upon the small steps leading to that moment. Her inclusion in the Smithsonian’s IfThenSheCan statue project, which celebrates 120 distinguished women in STEM, is a testament to Bruce’s persistence at Purdue and beyond.
