Philip Low

Award honors chemist for fight to beat cancer, save lives

Purdue University’s Philip Low continues to be celebrated for his lifesaving drug discovery work in fighting cancer. Low, the Presidential Scholar for Drug Discovery and the Ralph C. Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry in the College of Science at Purdue, recently won the highly prestigious Gustavus John Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest, presented by the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society.

Wherever and whenever Purdue Boilermakers cross paths, there exists the distinct possibility that they might break into song while hailing their old gold and black. Such is their love for the University, as expressed through its most recognizable tune, “Hail Purdue.” The beloved fight song is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year.

Invention addresses the problems of running a red light at intersections

An invention from Purdue and the Indiana Department of Transportation that uses wireless communication devices could save lives at high-speed traffic signals. Two million crashes occur annually at intersections with traffic signals, leading to hundreds of thousands of injuries and more than 3,000 fatalities.
