Boyang Dun, a high school student from Canterbury School in Fort Wayne, has visited Purdue several times and is impressed by the passion of the University's faculty members, its remarkable laboratories and its beautiful campus architecture. The stakes are higher this week for Dun and the 19 other high school students. The students, who represent 10 states, are on campus participating in the 12th annual USA Biology Olympiad (USABO), sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE). Four finalists will be selected tonight (June 12) to represent the United States at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) on July 6-13 in Bali, Indonesia. There, Team USA will compete against students from 62 other countries.

Faculty and staff news
With the goal of broadening sources of research funding and strengthening institutional support for the research enterprise, Purdue has announced that it will merge its offices of research and global partnerships into one organization, reporting directly to President Mitch Daniels. Suresh Garimella, who currently heads the global partnerships organization, will assume leadership of the newly combined entity. Al Rebar, currently director of Discovery Park, will broaden his responsibilities to include direction of the research office.
Purdue University Police and the Purdue University Fire Department will conduct functional emergency training exercises in the Engineering Administration Building today (June 12), Friday (June 13) and Monday (June 16).
A fitness routine or family recreation can become a better fit for schedules and wallets with new, lower-priced membership options from the Division of Recreational Sports. Changes also include becoming a Silver Sneakers location.
Parking Facilities would like to remind employees that the Grant Street Garage is expected to be crowded with visitors beginning Monday (June 16) due to ongoing maintenance work and the beginning of STAR.
Recorded presentations are now available online from Purdue Benefits' Road to Retirement program.
The Delegation of the President's Authority (V.B.5) has been updated to reflect recent changes made by the Board of Trustees and the President. In addition to these revisions, procedures for managing delegations of authority have been added as a related document. The procedures clarify what an appropriate delegation of authority is and outline the requirements for documenting delegations.
Faculty and staff are reminded that WebCRD/Ariba training sessions are being held by Xerox in June and August to cover the new job submission process.
General news
President Mitch Daniels and Purdue's two World Food Prize laureates, Gebisa Ejeta and Philip E. Nelson, will speak today (June 12) at the American Seed Trade Association's annual convention in Indianapolis. Daniels will give the keynote address, speaking about the need for plant science to help feed the world population and the role Purdue Moves will play in that.
The leadoff event today (June 12) in a series about civil rights and higher education, presented by the Diversity Resource Office, will honor Purdue's 2014 Dreamer Award recipients and hear from Wanda Mitchell, a professor/administrator from Virginia, at "A Conversation in Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964."
The expanded partnership between Purdue and Duke Energy Corp. will allow the Duke Energy Academy at Purdue to open its innovative three-year program to more students and teachers this summer when it meets June 22-28, exposing them to state-of-the-art laboratories, entrepreneurship opportunities and careers in energy.
Purdue researchers who developed a new approach to more effectively teach large numbers of engineering students are recommending that the approach be considered for adoption by universities globally.
