The groundbreaking results revealed Tuesday (May 6) in the first report of the Gallup-Purdue Index are making headlines nationwide, and President Mitch Daniels has been called on widely to speak about the study and its implications for the future of higher education.
Even before the announcement was made in front of 200 opinion leaders during an 11:15 a.m. webcast, media outlets broke the story, and the news spread rapidly in a matter of hours.

Faculty and staff news
Richard Buckius will transition his responsibilities from Purdue's vice president for research on June 1 and return to his faculty position in Purdue's School of Mechanical Engineering. On assignment under the intergovernmental personnel act, Buckius will serve as senior science advisor in the Office of the Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Late Monday night or very early Tuesday morning (May 5-6), Purdue faculty and staff received an email message sent in error by EBenefits, the online benefits system used by Purdue.
A redesigned version of Purdue's home page will go live on Aug. 4, and it includes a simpler, cleaner layout, an easier navigation system and responsive design for mobile devices.
Improvements to Purdue's Blackboard environment and changes to simplify the course management for instructors and students are coming as part of a scheduled upgrade to Blackboard Learn in May.

The Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday (May 6) that the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament will make its first appearance on the East Coast when the 2017 event is held at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
