Purdue professor focuses on food safety in hospitality industry
The numbers that Barbara Almanza, professor of hospitality and tourism management, knows by heart have been enough to keep her passionate about her teaching and research in food safety. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated one of six Americans gets sick every year from food-borne diseases. That's 48 million people. Of them, 128,000 are hospitalized and 3,000 die.
